The OptiX RTN 950A adopts a split structure. The system consists of the IDU 950A and the ODU. Each ODU is connected to the IDU 950A through an IF cable.
The IDU 950A is the indoor unit for an OptiX RTN 950A system. It receives and multiplexes services, performs service processing and IF processing, and provides the system control and communications function.

Ultra-High-Order Modulation 4096QAM
The ultra-high-order modulation scheme 4096QAM is supported by new-generation IF boards ISM6. It delivers a service capacity about 45% higher than traditional 256QAM, meeting high-bandwidth requirements in the LTE era.
112 MHz Channel Spacing
ISM6 boards support 112 MHz channel bandwidth. If spectrum conditions are met, one pair of ISM6 boards can be used with 32 GHz XMC-3 ODUs to provide 830 Mbit/s to 1 Gbit/s service throughput per link without enabling Ethernet frame header compression, , reducing CAPEX in building networks. Traditionally, when 56 MHz channel bandwidth is used, two pairs of IF boards and ODUs can be used to provide the same service throughput.
High Integration
The ISM6 board adopts high-density design, and provides two IF ports.
- Two IF channels can be flexibly configured as 2+0 or 2x(1+0). They can also be used to achieve intra-board XPIC, intra-board PLA, intra- or inter-board 1+1 protection, intra- or inter-board EPLA, and XPIC 1+1 protection for two boards. PLA/EPLA can be coupled with XPIC.
- Using ISM6 boards and XMC ODUs, a single NE supports a maximum of 10 microwave links, which simplifies the deployment of high-density aggregation sites with multiple directions.
Physical Link Aggregation
Physical link aggregation aggregates microwave links and implements load sharing over these aggregated microwave links based on physical layer bandwidth. Physical link aggregation does not use the Hash algorithm and is independent of service flow compositions and therefore makes full use of link bandwidth. Physical link aggregation works in the following modes:
- PLA mode: In this mode, IF boards distribute traffic, and two physical links can be aggregated as a group.
- EPLA mode: In this mode, the packet switching unit distributes traffic, and a maximum of 4physical links can be aggregated as a group.
- EPLA+ mode: In this mode, the packet switching unit distributes traffic, and a maximum of eight physical links can be aggregated as a group. An EPLA+ group must contain links provided by ISM6 boards.
