Application Scenarios

An MA5621/MA5621A applies to automatic power site information transmission networks, intelligent electricity consumption information collection networks, and video monitoring networks.

Applications in automatic power site information transmission and intelligent electricity consumption information collection networks
Application in a video monitoring network
FE: fast Ethernet FTU: feeder terminal unit
GE: gigabit Ethernet MSTP: multi-service transmission platform
OLT: optical line terminal OSN: optical wwitch node
RTU: remote terminal unit SCADA: supervisory control and data acquisition
SDH: synchronous digital hierarchy TTU: transform terminal unit

An MA5621/MA5621A mainly applies to the following networks:

  • Automatic power site information transmission network: The MA5621 works with an optical line terminal (OLT) to provide a transparent channel for automatically transmitting power site information. Through this channel, power distribution sites can communicate with the distribution automation system in real time. The automatic power site information transmission network supports three typical networking modes: single-homing, independent upstream transmission over two optical network unit (ONU) passive optical network (PON) ports, and dual-homing.
    • Single-homing: Optical splitters with unequal split ratio connect the OLT to MA5621 . An MA5621 uses two PON ports for upstream transmission and works with the PON ports on the active and standby OLTs to form a hand-in-hand protection network. The two PON ports on the MA5621 are of mutual backup. Only one PON port transmits packets over one PON line at a time.
    • Independent upstream transmission over two ONU PON ports: Optical splitters with unequal split ratio connect the OLT to MA5621 . An MA5621 uses two PON ports for upstream transmission and works with two OLTs to form a hand-in-hand protection network. Both the PON lines between the MA5621 and the OLTs are active and can forward packets at the same time. This feature protects generic object oriented substation event (GOOSE) services without using the optical fibers directly connected between the OLTs or a transmission network.
    • Dual-homing: The only difference between dual-homing and independent upstream transmission over two ONU PON ports lies in that the two PON ports on the MA5621 in dual-homing mode are in active and standby mode. Only one PON port transmits packets over one PON line at a time.
      NOTE:

      • Only the MA5621 supports this automatic power site information transmission network.
      • The MA5621 supports automatic switchback after a dual-homing protection switchover.
  • Intelligent electricity consumption information collection network: The MA5621/MA5621A works with an OLT to provide a transparent channel for intelligently collecting electricity consumption information. This function enables the automatic meter reading system (AMR) server to obtain user electricity consumption information in real time.
    1. MA5621/MA5621A is located near to an electricity meter, such as in an outdoor cabinet or electricity consumption information collector in a residential building. They are connected to concentrators through gigabit Ethernet (GE) or fast Ethernet (FE) autonegotiation electrical ports.
    2. The concentrators connect to collectors through power cables. The concentrators send the electricity consumption information collected by the collectors to the MA5621/MA5621A, or the concentrators connect to smart meters through RS485 serial ports and send the electricity consumption information to the MA5621/MA5621A.
    3. The MA5621/MA5621A uses PON uplink ports to transmit the received information to the OLT that is installed at a 110 kV or 35 kV substation. The OLT forwards the information to an upper layer device, which then reports the information to the AMR server.
  • Video monitoring network: The MA5621/MA5621A works with an OLT to provide a transparent channel for transmitting video monitoring information so that the monitoring center can monitor the monitored points in real time.
    1. Located at a monitored point, the MA5621/MA5621A connects to a video monitor through a GE or an FE autonegotiation electrical port to receive video monitoring information.
    2. The MA5621/MA5621A uses PON uplink ports to transmit the received information to the OLT at a monitoring center.
    3. The OLT converges and forwards video monitoring information to other monitors at the monitoring center.
